I started parkour young and became completely obsessed.
Everything revolved around moving better, jumping further and pushing what my body to its absolute limits.
That's why I started coaching, to create an environment where myself and the people around me could thrive.
So I built an environment, for myself and my clients, where pushing limits, staying lean, and prioritising performance came above everything else.
And over the years parkour took it's toll on my body: broken bones, torn ligaments, AC joint separation and eventually, a major knee injury where I tore my ACL, MCL, and both my medial and lateral meniscus.
That injury changed everything.
I knew rehab wouldn’t be quick and getting parkour back to a professional level would take several months if not years of serious dedication.
As always through my own personal injuries and my clients injuries, I was committed.
I forced myself to learn as much as I could around these injuries. If a world class football player can make it back, then so could I and so could my clients.
But, during that process, I wanted to confront a belief I’d held for a long time. Despite all that I had learned, I deliberately avoided growing my upper body.
I believed that being "bigger" would automatically make me slower, less explosive and worse at parkour...
So I rewrote it for myself. Rehabbed my knee and focused on improving my physique.
I started to train my upper body with the same intent and structure I’d always given my lower body focusing on building strength, adding muscle deliberately and learning how to balance size, performance and resilience.
And I'm glad I did.
It's now been 5 years since my ACL injury and it's safe to say I didn’t become slower, I didn’t lose explosiveness.
In fact, even with the knee injury and putting on 8-10kg in mass, I'm now the strongest, most explosive I've ever been.
And I'm happy with the progress I've made with my physique in the mean time.
I’m now in the best shape of my life. I'm more explosive more resilient and still able to push my body to it's limits.
I've made a lot of mistakes over the years from neglecting recovery, training obsessively and pushing my body past its limits, and I dread to think how much more progress I could have made if I had invested in a coach myself at the time.
